Probably originated in Europe. Known in England in the mid-1600’s.
Widely grown as a dessert and cider apple in the 18th century and
continued to be grown for the markets around London in the 19th
century. Although in 1883 it was voted amongst the top dozen varieties
its reputation then declined. Continues to be grown in Europe.
A medium sized apple. Flat-round to oblong shape with a trace of ribs.
Golden yellow background skin colour with an orange red flush and
numerous russet dots. Deep cream flesh, crisp to crumbling. Good fruity
taste similar to a Blenheim
Orange.
A tree of moderate vigour. Good cropper. |
