History and description of President

Raised by Thomas Rivers, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, UK and introduced in 1901. Received the RHS Award of Merit in 1895 and a First Class Certificate in 1905. Good keeping qualities have made it a successful commercial variety in Europe and America.

Very Large, oval, blue-black fruit. Quite juicy, greenish yellow flesh. Free stone. Pleasant sweet flavour and suitable as a dessert plum. Excellent cooker. Stores well and can also be dried.

Vigorous upright tree. Regular but moderate cropper. Branches tend to be brittle and break if crop is heavy. Susceptible to bacterial canker.
