History and description of Prince Englebert

Raised by Scheidweiler at Ghent, Belgium in 1843 from an open pollinated Prune d'Autriche.

Very large, oval fruit. Blue-black, bloomy skin studded with numerous russet dots. Firm yellowish flesh. Clinging stone. Quite acid and of little value as a dessert plum but an excellent culinary variety.

Upright spreading tree of moderate vigour. Good cropper.
