History and description of Severn Cross

Raised by G T Spinks at Long Ashton Research Station, Bristol, UK in 1921from a cross between Coe's Golden Drop and Giant Prune. Received an RHS Award of Merit in 1951. Was grown commercially in the UK.

Very large, oval fruit. Deep golden yellow skin with a pink flush and red dots. Soft, juicy, pale yellow flesh. Sweet with good flavour. Clinging stone. Easily bruised. Fruit hangs well on the tree.

Weak growing, upright spreading tree. Very heavy cropping. Susceptible to Silver Leaf.
