History and description of Smyrna

Smyrna is an old quince variety originating from Turkey. The fruit is an attractive bright yellow colour. It is quite large and an elegant long pear shape. It is ready for picking in October and stores well. The flesh is yellow, fairly hard and acid. It breaks up quickly when cooked and is excellent for making jelly.
