History and description of Spartan

Spartan is an early cropping blueberry ripening in early to mid July. It has attractive large, light blue berries with a delicious tangy sweet flavour. It is an easy to pick upright bush reaching up to 6ft (1.8m) at maturity. The leaves are large and glossy during the summer turning orange and yellow in the autumn. Spartan has received the RHS Award of Garden Merit. br>
All blueberries do best on a moist acid soil. Blueberries are self-fertile, but it is recognised that cross-pollination as a result of planting more than one variety together does improve yield. Spartan does best on a well-drained sandy loam with lots of organic matter.
