History and description of Edwards

Found in Oakland, California by L C Edwards c 1930 and ifirst received in the UK in 1960.

Very large, oval, slightly necked fruit. Blue-black bloomy skin. Firm, yellow, juicy flesh. Clinging stone. Considered primarily as a culinary variety but quite sweet and pleasant as a dessert variety when fully ripe. As a culinary plum its large size makes it very convenient for making jams and chutneys.

Produces a vigorous spreading tree. Good reliable and often heavy cropper. Branches susceptible to breaking under the heavy weight of a crop.
