History and description of Pond's Seedling

Details of the origin of Pond's seedling plum are not known but it is presumed to be of English origin and to have been discovered by a person called Pond. First recorded in 1831. Has been grown commercially in the UK.

Large, oval long and slender fruit. Bright red skin with some dots. Yellow, dryish flesh. Very attractive looking but of moderate dessert quality. Good for cooking. Fruit hangs well on the tree.

Very upright tree. Hardy and heavy cropping. Crops well on chalky soils.
