History and description of Close

Raised by C P Close at the US Department of Agriculture Arlington Experimental Farm in Virginia. Introduced in 1938. Grown in northern USA. Attractive large fruit with a pinky red flush. Soft, juicy white flesh. Quite sharp in taste. Vigorous, upright, triploid tree. Very hardy and suitable for locations with harsh cold winters.
