History and description of Noir de Meched

The region around the city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran is famous for its sweet black cherries. Noir de Meched has been developed in France from trees selected from this region. The bigarreau type fruit is large, very sweet, firm fleshed and almost black when ripe. The tree is quite vigorous and disease resistant.
