History and description of Ariel

Ariel plum was raised at Alnarp, Sweden from a cross between Autumn Compote and Count Althan's Gage. Introduced in 1960.

Medium large, oval-oblong fruit. Pinkish red fruit. Firm juicy golden flesh. Semi-clinging stone. Attractive looking with excellent flavour but fruit is susceptible to cracking and splitting particular in wet seasons. Can be used both as a dessert and culinary plum.

Very vigorous upright tree cropping regularly. Very susceptible to bacterial canker and therefore not suitable for humid locations.
