History and description of Orleans

Probably originated in France in the 17th Century. Original name was Brignole Violette but has been known as Orleans in Britain since the mid 18th Century.

Medium sized, round fruit. Bloomy red, often mottled skin. Sweet, juicy flesh but lacking in flavour and best used as a cooker. Free stone.

Weak growing, upright tree with very large, roundish leaves.
