History and description of Tickled Pink Baya® Marisa
This new red fleshed apple was bred in 2005 by Dr Michael Neumuller at the Bayerisches Obstzentrum
near Munich in southern Germany. The original German name is Baya® Marisa. Tickled Pink is the name
given to this variety for marketing in the UK.
Medium sized fruit with dark red smooth skin. The flesh is red, juicy and although quite sharp
pleasant to eat fresh. It keeps its shape when cooked and the red colour makes it an interesting
alternative apple for cooking. The juice is pink with a refreshing flavour. It is also an excellent
apple for drying producing unusual red dried apple rings or slices.
It produces a moderately vigorous tree with attractive dark pink/red blossom. It crops well and is
moderately resistant to scab.
