Purple Pershore plum was raised at Drake's Broughton near Pershore, Worcestershire, UK by Walter
Martin c 1877 from a cross bewteen Diamond and Rivers Early Prolific. Grown commercially in the
UK.
Medium large, oval fruit with a distinct neck. Purple skin turning blue-black when fully ripe
covered with a lighter coloured bloom. Firm, dry, yellow flesh. Quite sharp flavour. Best used as a
cooking plum producing an excellent colour and flavour when stewed or made into jam. Also very
suitable for freezing and using during the winter. If allowed to ripen well it can be used as a
dessert plum.
Moderately vigrous tree with pendulous branches. Heavy but irregular cropper.
