The largest of the English cooking apples capable of producing exhibition fruit of enormous size.

Origin: Isle of Wight UK, 1915

Pollination: Howgate Wonder is partially self-fertile and would produce some crop without a pollinator but would benefit considerably from a pollinator.  Pollination partners

History and description of Howgate Wonder

Howgate Wonder was raised in 1915-16 by G Warren of Howgate Lane, Bembridge, Isle of Wight, UK from Blenheim Orange x Newton Wonder. Introduced in 1932 by Stuart Low & Co of Enfield, Middlesex. Received RHS Award of Merit in 1949. Popular garden and exhibition variety but considered too large for commercial production.

Very large, round-conical fruit. Attractive looking. Pale green skin with brownish red flush and stripes. Pale cream flesh. Sharp pleasant taste. Produces a good sharp juice. Keeps its shape to some extent when cooked but lacks flavour. Stores well.

Vigorous, spreading tree. Partially self-fertile. Heavy regular cropper. Resistant to mildew.
