Rajka is a modern apple variety bred by the Institute of Experimental Botany in the Czech Republic from a cross between Šampion (Champion) and UEB 1200/1. It is one of a series of varieties bred by the Institute for resistance to scab.
Rajka is a medium to large sized, round conical apple. It has a very attractive appearance ripening to a bright scarlet red colour over a yellow background. The flesh is yellow, crisp and juicy with a distinctive sweet flavour. The fruit hang well on the tree into the autumn and keeps quite well. The tree is of medium vigour and spurs freely. It is a heavy regular cropper. It has very good scab resistance and some resistance to powdery mildew.
Rajka is one of the best garden varieties and one we highly recommend both for the quality of its fruit and disease resistance.
