History and description of Avalon

Avalon plum was raised at Long Ashton Research Station near Bristol UK in 1985. It has been grown comercially on a small scale in the UK. Avalon is one of the best mid season English eating plums.

An attractive large round, slightly oval fruit. Dark red skin turning purple with a blue bloom where exposed to the sun. The flesh is a deep golden yellow, almost apricot colour. It is soft, juicy and sweet. The skin ins delicate but with a distictive sharpness which adds to the flavour. The stone is semi-clinging.

Fairly vigorous tree without any serious disease problems. It crops well and the quality of the fruit is consistently good. An excellent garden variety.
